The local boys were the first to score, with a great run from Will, carrying defenders over the line. The conversion by Ryan Daley was successful and meant the score at half time was 6 to nil.
Ten minutes into the second half, Crookwell scored, leveling the score to 6 all. With ten minutes to go and the game in balance, a great short side play from Nick Stevens put Jack Hinds away to run 60 metres and score, making the score 12 to 6.
Another attacking raid was a great run from Jakob Halls to score, meaning the Youth League came out on top 18 to 6. Best players on the day were Adam Hinds, who was great in attack and defence. Adam was very well supported by Will Quinn, Jakob Halls and Nick Stevens.
Hawks
The Hawks took on the Canberra Bears, who were the first to score from a backline movement from the scrum, resulting in a try from Richard Allen and a successful conversion.
The Hawks would soon hit back with a try from Luke Brown and a goal from Jayke Hogan. A mistake from the Hawks’ kick off saw a penalty, which the Bears successfully kicked, giving them the lead at 8 to 6. However, the Hawks would go on the attack again; and a short ball from Carl Johnson saw Ben Davis run a great line, running 20 metres to score and lead at half time 12 to 8 at half time.
The second half became a battle of defences, with a high penalty count, but it was the Bears who scored the first try through a solo effort from Jake Priestly and the Bears hit the lead 14 to 12; with 15 minutes to go.
The Bears held firm and time was running out for the Hawks. With 15 seconds remaining and the Hawks down to their final play, Schofield put a kick over the top, but was hit late with a shoulder charge. The ref had no option and blew a penalty at full time.
The Hawks needed to kick the goal to put the game into extra time. Jayke Hogan calmly stepped up and put the ball straight between the posts, making the score 14 all.
In extra time the Hawks started strongly, with a great break by Luke Brown with Nathan Schofield backing up. Carl Johnson slotted a field goal to make the score 15 to 14 and the Hawks ran out winners.
Coaches awards on the day went to Luke Brown, Chris Salway, Matt Davis and Sam Davis.
Next Sunday, all games will be played at Crookwell, starting at 11.45 am.
